Historic buildings

Repair and restoration of windows, doors and other joinery for historic buildings.

Historic buildings intro

Wessex Joinery has worked on many historic building projects. Director, Stephen Newton, has more than 35 years' experience and has acquired particular expertise in this area.

The company has the required knowledge, skill and experience to undertake complex historic joinery restoration projects. Stephen has been recommended on more than one occasion to restore period properties and closely follows the guidelines laid out by the Society for the Preservation of Historic Buildings.

He has undertaken major projects on a number of high profile historic buildings including: the restoration of Box Sash Windows at Stowe School in Buckingham and the restoration of huge ornate internal door frames with Pigs Ear Architraves at Compton Verney Art Gallery near Stratford.

Other historic joinery building restoration projects that Stephen has worked on include:

  • the restoration of historic interior oak panelling, external doors and window frames for Thornbury Castle in South Gloucester
  • the restoration of seating pews in St. George’s concert hall in Bristol
  • a full restoration of historically significant arched oriel windows, curved on-plan bay windows along with entrance doors, again curved on-plan, at Luttrell’s Tower.
