Bespoke, pivot door

One of our clients wanted a new door for his Somerset village property. Now, this sounds like a straight forward request, however the doorway the new door needed to fit was not straight forward – too narrow to accommodate two doors, yet uncommonly wide for one single door.

We are always up for a challenge, and our experienced team relished this one. Obviously, there was no ‘off the shelf’ solution so we designed and built a bespoke one, consisting of one very wide single leaf door measuring a whopping 1,300m wide.

Contemporary design with state of the art fixings

After consulting with our clients we created a stunning, contemporary design with an oiled Sapele door and frame and large horizontal glazed units that allow light to pour into the room. As this is an external door, we also used toughened double-glazed glass for additional security. The combination of size and materials made it exceptionally heavy, posing an interesting challenge with regards to hanging the door and making sure it can be easily opened and closed.

An elegant solution

We implemented an ingenious pivot mechanism. It makes the door really easy to open and close and allows it to be fixed it in an open position, with the opening and closing being cushioned by the pivot mechanism so it doesn’t slam shut – useful on a breezy day! In addition the door has a state of the art remote locking system with multi-panel docking bolts allowing our clients unlock and lock the door – even when they are away from the house.

All in all, we met our client’s brief in full and they were over the moon with the finished product and in fact, so are we!
