Over the summer we worked on a project for a client in Babington, a small village near Frome in Somerset. Our client lives in a beautiful old stone cottage surrounded by countryside and there were two elements to the project.
One was to convert a small brick porch – the main entrance into the building – into a light and airy sun lounge. The other was to replace the garage doors so that our client could convert their garage into a new front entrance to the house.
As someone who loves gardening and spending time outside, our client was keen to create a sunny space where she would be able to grow plants.
Converting the property’s brick porch into a sun lounge, with glazing on three sides, as well as a glass roof, allows light to flood into the room. This means our client can now grow plants that thrive in a warm environment, and helps to bring the outside in.

For the sun lounge, we deconstructed the top section of the old porch, retaining a ‘dwarf wall’ to support our new timber framework. Our experienced joiners were able to construct the wooden frames to perfectly fit the quirky nature of the old cottage walls.
The old porch had been the main entrance to the property, so our client had a section of the garage converted to create a new front entrance to the house. We created a beautiful new wooden panelled front entrance to replace the old double garage doors.

We always go the extra mile to ensure projects we work on are carried out to the highest standards and implemented in a timely fashion. As a consequence a lot of our work comes through recommendation, the Babington project is just one example of this.
We are pleased to report that our client is delighted with the end result, and now enjoys being able to spend time tending her plants in the light, airy sun lounge, even on shorter, chillier winter days.
