We were approached by a couple who wanted to expand the kitchen in their traditional farmhouse by adding a bespoke orangery. They had approached a number of different companies before being pointed in the direction of Wessex Joinery – and the fit felt right for them.
Their original kitchen was small but full of character, and the idea was to create an additional large adjoining space that would allow natural light to flood into the rooms.
Our personal approach was all-important as they wanted to play an active part in the design of the orangery. With their input we designed a stunning orangery, that blended a contemporary design with more artistic moulding details that complemented the traditional style of the farmhouse.

The orangery was constructed from Kiln Dried European Oak, paired with powder-coated aluminium casement windows that added a modern touch to the building. Because the orangery faced a small hill, the customer had opted for a large roof lantern to let in as much natural light as possible.
The lantern was fitted into a six-metre roof space and required additional support due to its size. We cleverly disguised the visible structural support brackets for the roof by incorporating decorative corbels.

The customer was thrilled with the results and delighted by the additional light the lantern roof provided, as well as with the vista of the hill and surrounding farmlands.
Their small kitchen has been completely transformed by the addition of the orangery, with welcome additional space, while maintaining the buildings original character.
