Refurbishing hidden shutters

09 July 2019

We recently refurbished hidden window shutters in a period Clifton flat, bringing elegance and privacy to a beautiful airy room.

The triple-box sashed windows in the bedroom of the Clifton flat had been fitted with metal blinds by the previous owner. The blinds weren’t in keeping with the architecture of the building and didn’t give the room the relaxed, elegant feel the new owners wanted. When they realised that the window still had its original shutter casings they contacted us to see if the shutters were still accessible and whether they would work.

A bright idea

We were able to release the original shutters from their casing and refurbish them to look like new. We also suggested splitting the shutters into a top and bottom half. That way the top half could be left open, letting air and light into the high-ceilinged bedroom, while the bottom half could be closed for privacy.

A delighted customer

Tessa Wood, the homeowner, was so delighted with our work she’s asked us to reinstate the shutters on her patio doors too.

Tessa told us:

“We were new to the area and didn’t have any experience of shutters. Steve wasn’t the cheapest person to quote for the work, but his level of professionalism and expertise shone through. He’s a real craftsman.

“I really appreciated the extra level of advice he gave us. He’s very thoughtful about the aesthetics and practicalities of the work he’s doing.

“Steve is also a consummate professional. He had an appreciation of our time that you don’t often get from tradesmen; he was always punctual and if he was running late he’d call ahead to let me know.

“We’re delighted with our new shutters. Steve’s work exceeded our expectations and makes the room look much more elegant. We’re also getting a better night’s sleep!”

“Stephen partnered with us over a number of years as we restored a farmhouse and outbuildings from their perilous state. He made himself available for all manner of questions, adapted to our needs and was a complete pleasure to work with from start to finish. The results speak for themselves and prompt admiration from all our visitors. ”
